The Cicadas

In 2009, we used a small video camera to record interviews in an apartment building in Rome’s Cinecittà neighborhood. It was a story about evictions, with the peculiarity that the “end of lease” letters were addressed only to the building’s elderly tenants. The owner had carefully chosen the most vulnerable individuals. Eight years later, we felt the urge to return to that apartment building and create a story about the lives of Rome’s elderly during these difficult years of crisis. Some of them have died, others have left, some have remained. The characters we chose all have one common denominator: despite the difficulties, no one has given up.
